Jerome Award - Recipient for 2005

award_jerome_2005_fitzmyerJoseph A. Fitzmyer, S.J. is Professor Emeritus, Department of Biblical Studies, of The Catholic University of America. He is a native of Philadelphia and joined the Society of Jesus in Wernersville, PA. He has served the Catholic Church as a priest for the past 54 years. His studies and scholarship have focused on Sacred Scripture. Much of this has been within the world of Catholic education, beginning as a Latin, Greek, and German teacher at Gonzaga High School in Washington, DC. Most recently, he has shared his expertise and insights on “The James Ossuary and Its Implications.”

Fitzmyer’s dedication to The Word has included serving as Associate Editor, The Catholic Biblical Quarterly, 1963-71, 1978-79; Consulting Editor, Journal of Near Eastern Studies, 1969-71; Editor, Journal of Biblical Literature, 1971-76; Editor, Catholic Biblical Quarterly, 1980-84.
